Assistive and enabling technology for the people you serve
Luka Bear pairs an in-home assistive companion device with a Caregiver Companion App, so an approved family member or remote-support professional can be present from anywhere — supporting independence, daily routines, and connection while reducing the on-site staff hours a person requires.
Where Luka fits
Luka is designed to be written into an individualized support plan as assistive technology (AT) or enabling technology, including within Remote Supports programs. It advances the functional outcomes that HCBS waiver and AT programs are built to fund — helping people stay more independent while a care team stays present remotely.
Independence & self-direction
Supports a person’s ability to remain safely and comfortably in their own home or community setting, on their own terms and in line with participant-directed goals.
Daily routines & ADLs
Medication and appointment reminders and routine prompts that support activities of daily living (ADLs and IADLs) throughout the day.
Fewer required on-site hours
Remote presence and configurable overnight reassurance reduce the need for a staff member to be physically present at every moment.
Connection & engagement
Companionship and easy contact with approved family and staff support social connection and reduce isolation.
How it functions in a support plan
Configurable profiles are set to a person’s documented support needs and operated remotely by an approved family or care-team member — or a remote-support professional — through the Caregiver Companion App. Luka can stand alone or complement an existing Remote Supports service, adding the device, companion, and app layer.
Reimbursement pathways
Luka is positioned within the functional service categories that fund assistive technology and Remote Supports, including Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver AT and remote-supports definitions, Assistive Technology Act functional categories, managed care value-added benefits, and state disability and veteran AT programs.
Specific eligibility, coverage, and authorization depend on the individual’s plan, state, and program. We work with support coordinators and case managers to identify the right pathway and documentation for each person.
Who we serve and explore
Luka currently supports older adults and people living with dementia, and we are actively exploring applications across intellectual and developmental disabilities, social isolation and loneliness, autism, and veteran support. Functional capability is present-tense; population applications under exploration are described as such.
