Helping people with intellectual & developmental disabilities live more independently at home
Luka Bear is an assistive companion device paired with a Caregiver App. It gives a person routine and prompt support in their own space while an approved family member, care-team member, or remote-support professional stays connected from anywhere — supporting more independence with fewer required on-site staff hours.
Built around the individual
Luka delivers the functional supports that individualized support plans call for — prompts, connection, routine, and remote presence — configured to each person and adjustable at any time. It can stand on its own or complement existing Remote Supports services.
Routine & prompt support
Gentle, scheduled prompts help with daily living skills, medication reminders, and a predictable structure — reinforcing independence rather than replacing it. Each person’s routines and prompts are set to their own plan.
See the room & speak through Luka
Through the Caregiver App, an approved supporter can check in, view the room, and talk with the individual through Luka in real time — the connection that makes remote support possible.
Get a phone call when needed
If the person says “I need help” while Luka is in Active mode, Luka tells them it is letting their supporter know and places a phone call to the designated supporter — a direct, human connection to a trusted person, not just an app notification. Luka never calls 911.
Configured to each person
Profiles, routines, familiar voices, prompts, and preferences are individualized. One device supports up to 25 profiles, suitable for a private home, self-directed setting, or group residential home.
A way to be heard without speaking
Talk for Me holds the phrases that matter to that person on screen as large tiles, spoken aloud at a tap in a familiar voice. The tiles are set to the individual rather than a standard list, and they keep working when the internet drops. They speak aloud only; they don’t send an alert. On the touchscreen.
Aligned with Remote Supports, Enabling Technology & AT service definitions
Many HCBS waiver programs now recognize Remote Supports, Enabling Technology, and assistive technology (AT) as ways to increase independence and dignity while using staff time more efficiently. Luka’s remote-presence and routine-support capabilities are designed to map to those functional categories and to support self-direction and participant-directed arrangements, where an individual and their team choose the supporters and how support is delivered.
What it looks like day to day
A person lives in their own home with more independence. Luka prompts their morning and evening routines. A parent, sibling, care-team member, or remote-support professional can look in through the Caregiver App, speak through Luka to encourage a step, and answer a phone call from Luka if the person asks for help — reducing the hours a staff member must be physically present while keeping the individual connected to people they trust. Access is private and invitation-only, with admin-PIN controls suited to settings with rotating staff.

Stay in touch — safely
Staying connected without needing a phone: family and support staff can send messages that Luka reads aloud, make video or voice calls that Luka asks about first, and friends with their own Luka can talk Luka-to-Luka — all within a safe circle the team approves.
