Veterans

For veterans & military families

Be there for the veteran you love — from anywhere, day or night

Distance is hard when someone you served with, or served beside, is on their own. Luka Bear brings warm companionship into their home, and the Caregiver Companion App lets you visit by voice, share a photo, and stay close no matter how many miles are between you.

Luka Bear is an assistive, non-medical companion. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease or condition. It is not an emergency response system; in an emergency, always call 911.

Closer to home, even from far away

Many veterans live alone, and the family members who look after them are often a state — or a deployment — away. Luka gives your loved one a friendly presence in the room, and gives you a simple way to stay part of their day.

A companion who’s always there

Luka listens, chats, tells stories, and offers a steady, familiar presence through quiet hours — so the home feels less empty and the day feels less alone.

Visit by voice and photo

From the Caregiver Companion App you can send a warm voice message or a family photo, and even speak through Luka in your own familiar voice — so your loved one hears you, not a stranger.

Gentle routine & reminders

Luka offers friendly nudges for the day’s rhythm — a reminder to take medications on schedule, an upcoming appointment, a glass of water — supporting the structure that helps a day go smoothly.

Present from anywhere

Whether you’re across town or across the country, you can check in and feel connected. If your loved one asks Luka for help while it is in Active mode, Luka phones the caregiver you choose.

Easing the strain of long-distance caregiving

Caring for a veteran from a distance takes a quiet toll — the worry between calls, the wish to simply be in the room. Luka and the Caregiver Companion App help carry some of that weight, turning long gaps into small, everyday moments of connection and reassurance.

Luka supports companionship, daily routine, and family connection. It is a source of comfort and presence — not a treatment for any condition, including any service-related condition. Families exploring cost and support options can find Pricing & reimbursement on eldercarerobotics.net.

Ways to help pay for Luka Bear

If you care for a veteran living with dementia, memory loss, or the weight of long days alone, several benefit programs can help pay for Luka Bear — some with no new approval process at all.

PCAFC Caregiver Stipend — fastest

If you’re a family caregiver enrolled in the VA’s Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), your monthly stipend is an unrestricted cash benefit — you can use it for Luka Bear today. No application, no approval, no paperwork.

VA Aid & Attendance

Veterans and surviving spouses receiving the Aid & Attendance pension supplement — 2026 maximums up to about $1,730/month for a veteran and $1,560/month for a surviving spouse, income-adjusted — can apply it directly. The Own-It option often fits within a single month of the benefit.

VSO grants

American Legion, VFW, and DAV chapters make small assistive-technology grants — typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars — often within 1–2 weeks. We provide the justification letter.

Veteran-Directed Care

If the veteran has a Veteran-Directed Care (VDC) budget, Luka Bear can be written into the spending plan as assistive technology. We work with your VDC coordinator.
